the short version
no account. no advertising. no personal profile. driftspeak collects limited anonymous listening and purchase events — a random install id, never your name, email, or location — to understand whether the product works. nothing about you is sold to anyone.
the website
if you join the mailing list we store your email address (with our email provider, resend) and use it only to tell you when new volumes land. unsubscribe anytime; that deletes you from the list. if you subscribe, payment is handled by stripe — we never see or store your card details. we keep the minimum account record needed to know your subscription is active. the site itself uses vercel analytics and speed insights to count page views and page speed; they set no cookies and build no profile of you.
the ios app
the app has no account. your listening position, settled words, and downloads live on your device and stay there. if you delete the app, that data goes with it.
what the app sends us
the app tells us when something happened — a volume opened, a track finished, a purchase completed — and nothing about who it happened to. each event carries a random install id the app invents on first launch, and a handful of short labels like a volume number. no name, no email, no location, no advertising identifier, no third-party analytics sdk; the events go to driftspeak's own server and nowhere else. the install id belongs to the copy of the app, not to you: it is stored with no link to your account, so these events cannot be joined back to a person even by us. delete the app and the id is gone.
why we collect it at all
to answer one question honestly: does the thing work. whether a volume gets finished or abandoned, whether a chapter is the one everybody stops at. we would rather know that from anonymous counts than from knowing you.
